After 52 years of marriage, Gérard thought he knew everything about his wife. But a strange noise coming from the attic, which had remained closed for decades, will lead him to discover an unexpected secret.

For 52 years, his wife Marthe had kept that room locked. She claimed it contained only old furniture and dusty boxes. Gérard had never pressed him. But one evening, a strange noise coming from the attic led him to discover a truth he never would have imagined.
A door that remained closed for decades

Out of love and respect, Gérard had never asked any more questions. Years passed, the children grew up, and life went on.
The attic remained closed.
It wasn’t a subject of argument or even persistent curiosity. Simply an unspoken rule in their house: this room belonged to Martha.
The noise that changes everything

One evening, when the house was silent, Gérard heard an unusual noise above him. As if something was falling or moving in the attic.
Worried, he took a ladder and climbed up to check.
Inside, he found not only old cardboard boxes. In one corner was a small, carefully closed wooden chest.
Driven by curiosity, he opened it.
Inside, he discovered two hand-knitted dolls and an envelope containing a large sum of money.
Martha’s revelation
When Marthe returned home, Gérard told her about his discovery. Rather than getting angry, she sat calmly and explained the story to him.
When she was a child, her grandmother had given her some advice on how to maintain a happy marriage:
Whenever she was angry with her husband, she should knit a doll instead of arguing.
Gérard was deeply moved to discover only two dolls after 52 years of marriage . It meant that his wife had only truly been angry with him twice.
But one question remained unanswered.
